PHOTOGRAPHY ON YOUR SPECIAL WEDDING DAY & HOW I CAN BEST SERVE YOU:
1. WHAT STYLE PHOTOGRAPHY DO I REPRESENT?
Amongst my photography, photo journalism is right at the top of the list. This is the approach I use for all weddings I photograph. Spontaneous photographs, that truly capture the love, spirit and activities of the day. I enjoy talking portrait shots where the subjects are natural and at ease and a wedding is the ideal opportunity to capture such photographs, which will be treasured forever. This will include many images of moments you may have missed during the flurry and excitement of the day. Looking back at your wedding day through your photos and album you will relive the day again and again, noticing new details and moments every time you open the pages.
2. DO I SHOOT ON FILM OR DIGITAL?
All photographs are taken with digital, professional Nikon cameras, producing the highest quality. The benefits of digital include not having to change film as I go from sunshine to a darker interior, and being able to present the images online quickly.
3. HOW MANY PHOTOS WILL I TAKE?
The number of photographs taken can vary considerably but on average approximately 300 to 500 will be taken, the best of each moment edited. A mixture of both Colour and Black & White photographs will be produced. Intimate, portrait shots using the later.
4. WHO WILL HAVE COPYRIGHT?
It is unusual to be given full copyright for all the photos the photographer takes as some of these photographs may appear on my website advertising my services or made available to a picture library so if you have any objections, this should be discussed prior to signing a contract.
5. WHO WILL EDIT THE PHOTOS?
My assistances (who know my classic style and my eye for detail) and myself. If you are short of time, the best digital photographs can be produced on CD fairly quickly. What’s going on in the background of one photo may well tell a story in itself, so it is advantageous to allow at least 48 hours so the whole collection can be studied and edited carefully.
6. HOW LONG WILL I STAY ON THE DAY?
Before deciding on the number of hours you would like me to work, its important to decide what shots you want. Formal photographers will leave after the cake cutting and speeches, while Reportage Photographers such as myself will stay as long as it takes to get all the real shots that capture the essence and character of this very special day. It is therefore important to discuss the photographic needs in advance in relation to how the day is planned. This includes photographs of the preparation prior to the service (on both the groom & bride's side) as well as the location, detailed images of the actual ceremony itself, family & friends afterwards, portrait shots of the newly weds alone together, continuing on afterwards with photographs of all the celebrations, the cake cutting, bouquet throwing, first dance etc.
The images are presented to you on attractive DVDs, with individual files covering each section of the day (as mentioned above) and provided in High & Low.Resolution.
7. WILL I VISIT THE VENUE BEFOREHAND?
I like to visit the venue beforehand to make sure I am familiar with it, meet the event manager, search out romantic locations and understand how the wedding will run. I also need to be familiar with contingency plans. For example, where I will take the posed shots if it rains. If a visit prior to the wedding is not possible I will arrive earlier on the day itself.
8. WHEN DO WE GET THE PHOTOS?
If you have chosen to have your photographs simply presented on a CD delivery is usually within 48 hours. Confirmation of this will be given at the time of signing a contract with you or your Representative / Event Manager.
9. HOW CAN FRIENDS AND FAMILY SEE THEM?
Your guests will want to see the pictures as soon as they can and the internet is the perfect way to share them. Those presented on-line will be low resolution. Several options are available (as mentioned at the top of this page. This service is provided at an additional fee. Simply ask your Event Manager/Tour Operator to contact me or contact me direct for more details.
AS THE YEARS GO BY and you pause to reflect on your very special day, it is the photographs that bring back those intense feelings, and memories from an extra-ordinary day. In addition I arrange leather bound albums combining beautiful craftsmanship with classic and imaginative photography. If you do not have time to allow for your 'African Wedding Album' to be designed and created, alternative options that are just as attractive are available. A host of other imaginative ideas are part of my portfolio and I would be only too happy to take you through all my creative ideas.
I love photographing people, and weddings provide great opportunities. Wedding photography is not only about photographic skills and artistic imagination, but also the ability to make people feel at ease and comfortable when my lens is pointed at them. Meeting the couple prior to the wedding is always an asset but not always possible, in which case I join them early morning when preparations are just starting. Getting to know the Bride & Groom and their prospective families through relaxed chat with a clear cut idea of my approach and a few good laughs together soon has everyone comfortable. With the excitement of the day and the general flurry during preparations my job covering the activities from scratch only seems to strengthen our bond.
I also enjoy working closely with Event Managers, Wedding Planners and Tour Operators who specialize in arranging weddings in East Africa for global couples.
